Skiathos belongs to Skopelos, Alonissos and other smaller islands in the northern Sporades Islands (name that means “sparse”, “randomly placed”) located in the Aegean Sea. It was the first island to have had great tourist development in the 70s and has since held a leading position in Greek Tourism. Every year, thousands of tourists from Greece and the rest of the world choose Skiathos for their summer holidays while few of them choose to visit Skiathos in the winter, where it is characterized by a poetic beauty, tranquility and romance.

It is 38 nautical miles from Volos and 3 nautical miles from Pelion. Its total area is about 49 sq. Km. with a total coastline of about 44 km, with about 6500 permanent residents. Most of the residents are engaged in tourist business, which is also the island’s main economic resource, and fewer with traditional island occupations such as fishing, shipping, livestock and agriculture. The main agricultural product of Skiathos is olive and olive oil.

It is an evergreen island, with most of it covered by a rich pine forest full of trails for romantic walks and walks leading to monasteries and other historical monuments. The island’s mountainous volume is estimated at 75% of the total area. Unlike many other Greek islands, Skiathos presents a beautiful speciality: The northern part of the island is distinctly distinct from the southern part. Thus, the southern side is well developed touristy while the northern side has retained its unspoiled natural beauty.

Skiathos has a total of 64 beaches that cover all the tastes since they are quite diverse with each other. They are all unique in beauty and if we had to separate a few we would choose Koukounaries, Lalaria, Banana, Kastro and Tsougria islet.
